Mildred Titcomb Rains Pianist Socialite Estate Lot Scrapbooks Photos Paderewski

We have for your consideration a personal collection from the estate of pianist and socialite Mildred Titcomb Rains (1906-2000).  This group of items essentially tells her life story. She was a child prodigy pianist born into wealth - her father was Harvey Titcomb, the present of the Southern Pacific Railroad in Mexico. She attended Manning School of music and performed in her first public recital at age 11. She later became a piano student of Sigismond Stojowski (a well known Polish pianist and composer) and later a friend of Ignancy Paderewski and Ernest Schelling. She performed for large audiences in both New York and California. In 1932, Mildred married William Rains, a prominent attorney, and their wedding was at Hotel Biltmore in New York. Stojowski played at their ceremony. Following her marriage, she contined to perform with the Pasadena Symphony, the Bonson Student Orchestra, and with Madelaine Forthmann in a joint concert at the Biltmore Hotel.
This lot of items is pre-owned. The scrapbooks and photo albums were not professionally assembled. Many of the photos, telegrams, letters, business cards and etc are adhered to the pages. Included in this group of items:

There is a photo of Mildred and Stojowski at a recital included.
