This is a gorgeous piece of early American history. This is a primitive schoolmaster's style desk. We are quite certain that this piece dates back to the early part of the 1800's. The desk was hand-made and was constructed using square nails. We suspect that the wood used is pine. Some sections of the desk were made using wood planks as large as 22" wide! A board on the top is 17 1/2" wide and one on the side measures 21" wide. Boards of this size only reinforce the old age of this piece.
The desk has the following measurements:
There are four roughly-cut drawers on the right side of the desk. They measure as follows:
The drawer bottoms show evidence of being cut by a mill saw. They are all hand-planed and chamfered. One of the drawers does have a small hole in the face where a lock was removed. The right side of the desk is supported by 2 simple-style turned legs. There is a railed book gallery running across the back/top of the desk.
This is in great, antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. Regardless of age, this desk is still very sturdy. It appears as though the desk was once painted, but was later striped to reveal the natural wood finish. Tiny pieces of evidence of the previous paint job can be found in corners, cracks and crevices. The drawer pulls are old, but do not appear to be original to this piece. This desk is nearly 200 years old. It shows wear consistent to its age in the form of cracks, chips, scratches and general bumps and bruises. These flaws only add to the character of this 19th century piece. Please see pictures for more details, and please ask questions if you have them.
We are pleased to offer this antique oak-front step back style cupboard with decorative crown. This primitive style kitchen cabinet features two top doors with glass panels and two wooden doors that open to reveal two shelves. There is a working key that locks and unlocks the top two doors. This cupboard is 74 3/8" height without the crown and 82 1/8" tall with the crown in place x 21 1/2" depth at the stepback portion x 40 1/4" wide. The crown is held in place by 3 dowels. The drawers have dovetailed construction.
The shelves have been lined by a previous owner, with wood-grain-look contact paper. We are unsure of the condition of the wood shelves beneath this paper.
Pre-owned with imperfect primitive/rustic style surfaces. This piece has some glue residue present, scratches and scrapes in the finish, and some small portions of wood missing from the left side panel. There are some white paint spatters on the bottom set of doors. The sides are composed of wood that is not oak - only the front of the piece is oak. This is an old piece so there is wear consistant with the age present.
The doors and crown will be removed for shipping. This cupboard will be encased in styrofoam and cardboard, placed on a pallet, and shipped on its back.

Willet was always known as a producer of very high quality furniture. It was manufactured furniture rather than hand-made, but the pieces were always very carefully crafted, and were made of solid hardwoods, most often cherry but sometimes in maple as well. There were no veneers, particle board or any other cheap material even in interior places like drawer pieces. They were also famous for their hand-rubbed finishes, which often gave a glass-like polished, almost three-dimensional transparent depth to the wood.
